Original Raj Hotel is the U.K's first Indian themed Hotel and was opened by Lady Shakira Caine in Spring 2000. All rooms are furnished with Indian hardwood furniture handmade in Jaipur from recycled Australian railway sleepers. The fabrics & furniture of the hotel evoke the atmosphere and romance of India. Located close to Haymarket train station and 5 minutes by bus to Princes Street it is ideally located for exploring Edinburgh.
The hotel is situated in the up-market Murrayfield area of Edinburgh, 1 mile west of the City Centre, on the A8 which leads to Edinburgh Airport and thence to Glasgow. Guests can order from the extensive menu of the well known Raj Restaurant on The Shore in Leith which delivers to the hotel.
The Raj Hotel aims to attract the repeat and referred custom of independent travellers, romantic weekenders, business people and families who are looking for genuinely unique experience well located for the centre of Edinburgh at reasonable prices. |

Original Raj Hotel is well located for visiting the centre of Edinburgh. It's is situated in the up-market Murrayfield area of Edinburgh, 1 mile west of the City Centre, on the A8 which leads to Edinburgh Airport and thence to Glasgow. The hotel is in a substantial Victorian house between Murrayfield and Haymarket train station, about 5 minutes by bus, from the West End of Princes Street and between the centre of Edinburgh and Edinburgh airport.
The hotel does not serve lunches or evening meals but you can taste some wonderful Indian specialities from the famous The Raj, founded by Tommy Miah, Edinburgh's best Indian restaurant in Leith.
Only 2 minutes walk from the bus stop, the hotel is perfectly located to reach the city centre. The Original Raj Hotel is situated in the famous Murrayfield area, 1 mile from the city centre. You can visit the Edinburgh Zoo, - home to the worlsd’s most northerly penguins – 3Km to the west. Lovers of art and the countryside can take the Water of Leith Walkway and follow the river downstream to the footbridge to the rear entrance of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery which houses a good collection of Surrealists and many works by Edinburgh sculptor Sir Eduardo Paolozzi. |

We stayed here in May 2006 and loved it. The hotel is very clean and staff very helpful. Will definitely use this hotel again.
Went here in January, hotel really was great, our room had a massive bed with lovely covers, and a canopy, plenty of storage for my many clothes, a tv, nice ensuite and extra seating plus friendly staff. Would definitely go again.
