Experience it all at Unawatuna Beach Resort with its unique theme concept of a Sri Lankan Fishing village. A white dagaba sits on a rocky outcrop looking back over a golden beach that curves away into the distance; a green forest of coconut palms is the back drop to the classic picture postcard.
A number of guest houses and restaurants front the shoreline, but, most surprisingly, Unawatuna Beach Resort is the only hotel in the neighbourhood. Indeed, it has its own entrance road, distinct from the other main road, though the beach links everyone.
Unawatuna Beach Resort began life in 1980 as a discreet ten room property. It seems to emerge organically from the surrounding fishing village and it has kept its local roots even as it expanded to the present 63 rooms.
Local materials and techniques are used extensively, such as the thatch above the reception and palm woven mats that cover ceilings, cupboards and wardrobes. Constant maintenance ensures all remain in good condition. At the end of 1998 Unawatuna Beach Resort was fully refurbished and the resort was developed on the theme of a fishing village. |

A day at the ’Jungle beach’ by boat - A fully secluded beach with magnificent coral formation. Snorkeling a must. A jungle lunch B.B.Q and chilled beer and drinks will be available. Return by sunset.
2 hours guided trek to Rumas Sala which figures prominently in the epic saga of the Ramayana. A nature reserve for herbs, Rumas Sala boasts of many herbs not found anywhere else on the Island.
3 hour city tour of Galle, visiting the acient Galle Fort, a world heritage site steeped in history, Gem factory, the local market for fruits, vegetables & fish.
Half day trip to Balapitiya - boat trip up river passing around 50 - 60 small Islands mostly uninhabited. Visit moonstone mine on the way back.
Day trip to Deniyaya - a guided trek in the famed Sinharaja Rain Forest. Day trip to Uda Walawe or Yala National Park - the two main wild life reserves.
